Building Energy
Performance Standards

The District of Columbia passed a law in 2018 that established a road map toward cutting the city’s carbon emissions in half by 2032. And because DC’s buildings account for 75 percent of its emissions, the Clean Energy law laid out a series of Building Energy Performance Standards (BEPS) to target energy efficiency. It sets a minimum threshold of energy performance that is no lower than the local median Energy Star score by property type. Those who don’t meet their scores must reduce their energy use or face steep fines.

Working with the Perkins Eastman sustainability team, a guide was developed to help building owners understand the complex new building regulations. This guidebook was developed for a Perkins Eastman Speaker series which involved a discussion with 4 panelists. This being the first event the DC office held post pandemic, it was important to develop a brand identity to promote and recognize that these assets were coming from the Perkins Eastman team.
