Hi there! I’m Catherine
Hi there! My name is Catherine Page and welcome to my digital space!
I am starting this blog called Current to track my growth and development as a designer in the years to come. You will soon learn that I love systems that hold information over long periods of time and what better way to start than with my own.
I graduated with my Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts at the start of the pandemic. Although it has been a challenging time, I am slowly working my way toward becoming the creative I want to be.
With plenty of time to reflect I have uncovered many things I learned during my college experience as well as a handful of things that did not prepare me for the real world. No one knew that they would be graduating in the middle of a pandemic, but with time it has allowed me to see life and my career through a new perspective.
Following graduation my first priority was to find a job that allowed me to gain life experience while also focusing on finding the perfect design job to launch my career. Little did I know how hard it was going to be to find a job during an international pandemic. Finally, I received an acceptance from my local Fresh Market and started working as a cashier. This experience has allowed me to not only work but to also serve my community during an international crisis. By the end of the summer they offered me a management position that I gladly accepted.
Fast forward to February 2021. I have learned the hard truth of working long hours in a fast-paced customer service environment. I have seen myself grow through increased communication, collaborative teamwork, and problem solving. As a front end manager I have had to handle a variety of situations that have tested my critical thinking skills. Although challenging at times this job has given me a great opportunity for creative growth.
I have found that it takes hard work to get where you want to be and this is just the beginning of my journey.
I went to Virginia Commonwealth University and received my Bachelor Degree of Fine Arts in Graphic Design and it was there where I discovered my love for publication design. I began making zines that slowly turned into projects emphasizing my photography. This then morphed into curating projects that involved others photography as well as my own design elements. I am constantly working to improve the interaction between photography and design. This passion has greatly influenced my commitment to being a life-long learner.
My website and the beginning of my Personal Archives Project are a result of continuous hard work and perseverance. If I can emphasize anything in this post it would be that I am determined to grow personally and professionally given the opportunity to apply myself and my creative nature.
On that note, I leave you with a thank you if you made it this far.
As I move forward in life, I have decided that I want to live a life full of learning. I love the statement “You learn something new every day” because you should! I aspire to be an evolving individual that not only improves their practice but their way of thinking every single day.
